20th Anniversary - Suggested Reading.

Every so often you come across some recommended reading material that turns out be really useful. This was the case when Jeanne Sullivan, at the time with StarVest Partners, recommended Jim Collin’s book, Good to Great. It’s even available on Audible for consuming during a flight or long drive. The recommendation came on the heels of inquiring about how her firm came about deciding on making an investment in new company.

The book is built of an incredible amount of analytical research, presented through an illustrative series of anecdotal stories, and dotted with solidly described lessons. As a business leader, it’ll make you question yourself and cause you to think more deeply about how you go about making decisions. As a team builder, you’ll think a bit more broadly about how future candidates fit your organization’s culture and overall strategy and brain trust rather than solely focusing on the specific requirements of the position to be filled.

You’ll want to read it over again through the years, as the points made hold up to time. My copy is worn and I’ve listened to the Audible version on overseas flights a couple times. You’ll want to work through the rest of Collin’s books as part of your accumulating recommended readings. They’re all worth the time.
